XTC / HNY

Ecstasy talent Miracles Club and Honey Soundsystem have been in the throes of an intense west coast courtship for some time now. 2011 and 2012 saw multiple appearances of The Miracles Club performing live at Honey's Sunday Night Weekly and Folsom Street Fair’s Deviants Massive. During 2011, we witnessed the exchange of love notes in the form of remixes and releases for both crew's in-house record labels ECSTASY, HNYTRX, and Discaire Records. With so much to share (and in the works!), the dual crews ECTSASY and HNY will be consummating their legendary love with DJ sets and the premieres of two new live acts.

"Emotion II Emotion" Portland duo Avalon Kalin (Finesse) and Rafael Fauria (Miracles Club) featuring vocalist  Ryann Bossetti, takes those classic hardware house sounds we have come to adore to new heights of sexy late-night bliss. Look out for more EIIE on the upcoming Ecstasy Compilation!425779_214552405310091_100002659989263_374738_2059037507_n"Robot Hustle" steps out of his role as resident Honey Soundsystem DJ and placing himself behind a wall of vintage synths and analog drum machines to mesmerize the dance-floor with gigantic oscillated croons and hypnotic dance rhythms.robot_hustle

Shade Compositions

Rashaad Newsome (b. 1979) utilizes culture for contemporary art performance. Here  is an excerpt of a "Shade Composition". Very interesting. I first saw his work exploring the use of Vogue and Ballroom dancing. Here is is website: http://rashaadnewsome.com/ BTW he is probably not the first to bring ballroom culture into the "white box". Trajal Harrell has been using Ballroom culture too: http://betatrajal.org/home.html Robert Tyree introduced me to his work. Enjoy the delightful performance documents! -AK

House: "The Idea Came From My Mom"

The story continues. This video is from 2008. What is "House"? Juan Atkins always thought it meant music made "in-house" by the DJ. Turns out this might very well be it. Rroy claims in this interesting video how he invented the term "House". It makes more sense compared to the other explanations. I've heard corroborating evidence in an interview with an early House DJ (Chip E I think) said Rroy came up to him at a party and said more or less "I have something that is gonna be the next hot thing and separate me from all the other DJs, It's called House."
