Window

Window is the first full-length release from artist Alexis Penney, written and recorded in collabora-tion with singer-songwriter Jamie Crewe (of Poisonous Relationship) and Nick Weiss (of Teengirl Fantasy) between 2011 and 2013, in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York.

Sung in Penney’s singular, soulful croon, Window contains pop melodies cast in a timeless sound that transcend genre by nodding equally to house, new wave and disco,  At the intersection of dis-parate scenes and lives - between a long-term relationship and solitude; sadness and pride - Window is at once a framed portrait of the artist and a mirror that invites the listener to contemplate their own emotional life.

After party

Tonight we are thrilled to host the live 9 piece disco-tripper-diva-funk ensemble know as Midnight Magic. We played a couple of shows together in NYC over the summer and are psyched to make it happen again in our hometown. Cut Copy will be joining us with a DJ set to close the party after their sold-out show at the Wonder Ballroom.

If you haven't checked it out yet Midnight Magic released a free 5 track EP last month on Scion AV which you can stream and DL below.

And a new single "Drop Me A Line" on Permanent Vacation with remixes by Steffi (<3), Holy Ghost and more.

Good Vibrations

We have been out on the road quite a bit this summer and haven't had the time to do much posting so here is a lil catch up... We just got back from the Sunset Campout where we played alongside our friend Steve Summers and hero Larry Heard ! and we are now back in NYC for a couple shows. If you are around Miracles Club will be playing Glasslands tonight and the Public assembly tomorrow night with Midnight Magic!

OP+MC: 12" Release, A Children's Story

There was this great party the other day.

There was dancing.

There was a delicious (vegan) cake.

There were hella trippy people.

There was realness.

They were (contemporary) dancing in the streets.

In the end, I got a free whiskey for playing a few records, met my new favorite DJ (and he's already in my band!), I got to yell through an unintelligible vocoder, took 2 packs of "Emergen-C" (not a euphemism), and throughly made up for a mostly shitty week. You can't ask for much more, man!

Let's do that again.

Rites Of Spring

Hey, everybody, we're very pleased to announce two of our artist/contributors to E-Blog, have a spring offering for you.

OPERATIVE "Pulse"

"Pulse" is our homage to the square wave and to its self-modulation, implying steady rhythm but also variation by its very structure. Binaural high-hats beat out a martial time while analog circuits bubble out into a thick, stroboscopic sunset. If our song "Ramp" is James Tenney trying to meet Joey Beltram half-way, then maybe "Pulse" is Steve Reich "Music for 18 Musicians" slouching towards Orbital's "Halcyon & On & On".
