Strategy

Kenna Jean
there is this amazing band in portland called 'litanic mask' which features mark burden from silentist and kenna jean from friends forever. they rarely play but when they do, i cancel everything and show up early so as not to miss them. they are like some crazy fusion of ambient pulsating dance music and my bloody valentine if amy winehouse was the singer. amazing.. they've promised to send us some of their unicorn music someday but until then, here is a new solo track from kenna that she threw together for our blog.

OP+MC: 12" Release, A Children's Story
There was dancing.
There was a delicious (vegan) cake.
There were hella trippy people.
There was realness.
They were (contemporary) dancing in the streets.
In the end, I got a free whiskey for playing a few records, met my new favorite DJ (and he's already in my band!), I got to yell through an unintelligible vocoder, took 2 packs of "Emergen-C" (not a euphemism), and throughly made up for a mostly shitty week. You can't ask for much more, man!
Let's do that again.

what if we were in a jungle and we happened upon a group of praying mantises dancing in a conga line wearing these masks? and we totally had coconuts filled with some sort of ambrosia while a friendly, cheshire snake popped a hooka in our mouth occasionally. dizzyingly, falling over laughing while we jet out into nitrous, deep space for a quick second only to come back with a faint memory of a question so familiar..it's just at the tip of my tongue.. well check out this awesome dub-edit that My Cousin Roy did of the Leech remix of chango. let's get lost to the sound of clapping hands, dubby strictly dubalution.

Paris Texas, Miami
you are in your Ferrari/Cadillac convertible driving around the coast of miami but then u suddenly feel the hot, desert heat swatting your skin with warm pets. u are in Texas driving days and nights, stopping at the same hotel oasis over and over. feedback loop, you hear a voice, it's the sound of your heart beating to the cr78 drums and some fm synthesis basslines.. this is what the new Leech remix of Near A Mirrored Pit Viper by Jonas Reinhardt sounds like to me. like a long drive by the ocean via the desert. i almost want to speak over it in my own remix but with the voice of Ann Magnuson of Bongwater dressed as Natassja Kinski in the first cabin scene.

1998 Delay
i've been feeling the octave-as-decade vibes lately. sets of threes, reappearing words coming out of mouths, off pages and written in landscape..ancient information peeking through here and there, like tiny holes where little lights beam through the room and into me..absorbed like dna breath. let this beautiful music by Signaldrift aka Franz Buchholz give you a taste of what i'm talking about. an octave old, and not a moment too soon, this record not only still holds true but reminds me of where i come from and where i'm going. nowhere, somewhere.
.060 came out in 1998 on the Omco imprint and there are plans for a re-release. Keep an eye out for a new Signaldrift release on Portland's very own Audraglint
here are two tracks but honestly, it's really hard to choose as the whole record is just so crucial.
